CLICK5: Pure, White & Deadly

Missive From ‘Merica: Missive #137

*Good grief, there’s full Moon, too, Clicky? …/bites lip… There’ll be lunatics abroad tonight…*

As promised in yesterday’s missive, Dear Reader, Cade has very kindly whizzed across the 137th installment of his wonder ramblings for your pleasure. I also mentioned yesterday that today, Friday 13th of September, has a connection with 137. Well, two actually…

Moss Goon

… The date when written out UK style is 13/9…

Moss Goon Reversed

*/Tuts… I haven’t finished yet, Clicky…*

… And 139 is a Twin Prime with 137…

Moss Goon

*Told ya… /sticks out tongue…*

… Plus as September is named for ‘seven’, the date can be conceived as 13/7. Then there’s the Alternative Thinking 37 sync…

*/lights up…*

…Raphael at that site has been thinking deeply and alternatively about ‘137’ for the longest time, and has amassed a 137 treasure trove. Yesterday he published a splendid post, the first in ages. 37 is the 12th Prime and today, of course, is the 37th Friday of 2019…

Scoob and Mystery Machine

*Yeah, yeah, and 37 is also the atomic number of ROOB ID, I AM… /smokes… It ain’t about me, Clicky…*

That’s why I am delighted to be able to present the Text US Okie Devil’s 137th missive for the LoL of it today, Dear Reader…

Enjoy! ❤

*******

Didn’t get the job – got the rejection email earlier. No big deal really – been turned down and/or ignored for prolly a thousand jobs over the past few years. But this one I was qualified for somewhat, and, I aced the typing test. 40 wpm average with a 98.5% accuracy on a 5 minute typing test ain’t that bad, especially for someone who typically doesn’t type by sight. In fact, I never type by sight. Like read something, and type it at the same time. I’m quite impressed with my typing test result. That’s no mean feat.

(me being impressed with myself)

Aphasia

Don't ask why I put that there
^DIE KRUPPS ~ Schmutzfabrik^

SO! What’s up over in Merovee land, eh? Was not my intent to kick a hornet’s nest. Just trying to understand what’s being said. Cade is not known for being the sharpest knife in the drawer, and it’s kinda nice to know where he stands.

^Front 242 – Rhythm of Time (Victor the Cleaner)^

From a learning standpoint, how did I just refer to myself? Would that be considered 2nd person? 4th person? Did some reading, and everything on this seems to center around pronouns, but I referred to myself by name.

AH HA!

Illeism

So yeah...3rd person

I guess in order to refer to yourself in the 4th person, you need both 1st and 3rd person. Wait…didn’t I do that? I used both “Cade” and “he”.

^Jump – Funkatarium^

How long until Trump spins his anti-e-cig/fake news crap as a trap. That’s what I’m wondering. Like, some kind of double-cross to “expose” fake news sources…

maybe?

Was reading Leg Iron’s latest post, and it really got me to thinking that PT will likely spin it. He’ll have to, assuming the “fake news” angle actually sticks. Where in the fuck did this vaping legislation even come from? Talk about coming from left-field, I woulda been less shocked if to hear that the President was introducing legislation that limited the number of toilet paper sheets citizens could use when wiping their butts. Not to mention, the limited reading that I’ve done is indicative that this is a regional problem. Meaning, the state in question should deal with it, not the Federal government. Something else is going on here, and I don’t think it has anything to do with THC, black market products or even vaping.

^Front 242 – Happiness (Dance Mix By Underworld)^

Kind of a holdover thought from the previous missive, but have you ever been somewhat submerged in water, had something float up next to you, you tried to push it away, and it winds up floating even closer to you? Or you try and pick it up from underneath the water, but it runs away from your hand? Or you try and distance your entire body from it, but it follows you? That’s kinda what I was thinking with respect to a body moving through a space, how to identify other bodies, and how to know how to react to those bodies without becoming unnecessarily entangled with those bodies because of your actions. I was thinking more about inorganic kinds of things, but these concepts aren’t much different in a lot of cases than dealing with organics. Like swatting at a wasp is likely to just irritate the fuck out of it. Same could be said of a leaf in a pool of water.

Less-destructive/non-destructive travel

That’s what I’m thinking of. To relate, the reason that supersonic travel is out, is because it’s destructive as hell. Commercial passenger parabolic space travel isn’t going to be much better. To relate even further, I just looked up some figures for SpaceX’s Falcon rockets.

For Falcon 9: 156.1 ± 4.9 dB (unweighted) at 125 ft.

For Falcon Heavy: 160.9 ± 4.9 dB (unweighted) at 125 ft.

Now, to put that in perspective. Like, those numbers… they need some perspective. Wanna come along?

It's gonna get loud
^Finitribe ‘We Have Come’^

As you can see, @ 156.1 and 160.9 decibels, the Falcon 9 and Falcon 9 Heavy rockets are hip deep in the intolerable pool. I think a shotgun blast is around 140 decibels, most commercial aircraft are around 130 decibels, and anything around those numbers and above is where the pain thresholds lay. So if we’re gonna have commercial parabolic space travel carting your tubby ass from Dallas to London in 30 minutes, let’s see what the locals are going to have to deal with.

Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport is the world’s fourth busiest airport, offering nearly 1850 flights per day and serving 64 million passengers a year.’

Source = Google – 12 September 2019 @16:22

Now, at 1,850 flights per day for a single airport (D/FW), we kinda need to know what the average passenger load for commercial aircraft is.

What is the average amount of passengers on a plane?

Those numbers look reasonable to me, and it’s something we really need to consider seeing as how, currently, rockets can’t even carry a single person, let alone hundreds. But to be fair, parabolic space flight is likely not the smartest of options for someone traveling from Dallas to Austin or even Dallas to New York. It’s unlikely that 1,850 rockets are going to be blasting off from D/FW each day, so let’s get a bead on the number of international flights that leave from the Metroplex.

Overall, DFW Airport has service to 223 destinations, including 56 international and 167 destinations within the United States. Fifteen of the 27 passenger airlines that serve DFW are foreign-flagged, and 12 are domestic.’

Source = Google – 12 September 2019 @ 16:27

That doesn’t tell us much, but some further reading implies that there are 30 flights per week from D/FW to London area airports, which means an average of 4.2 flights per day.

Q: Could we handle 4 rocket launches per day in this area?

A: ???

No idea, and that’s only the London service. Glass sales are going to go through the fucking roof.

^Skinny Puppy – Tin Omen^

What is the cost effectiveness of devising a system for aircraft that could avoid a bird? What about a system that could avoid an insect? Is that overkill? Altering the course of a 200/300 ton jet just to avoid a mosquito? Especially a mosquito.

Those things suck
^A Split Second – Flesh (Full 12″ Version) (Official video)^

Maybe there’s a balance in the quanta that we are missing. Some something in the ether that knows when and where we are being sloppy as fuck, and maybe where we need to improve in certain areas in order to advance in other areas. Like say… oh, I dunno… maybe in order to increase a certain medical treatment from 30.6% effectiveness to 45.9% effectiveness, all it takes is a reduction of 5% in the number of plants killed by herbicides. That energy has to come from somewhere right? It’s gotta go somewhere too, and there has to be some kind of sustainable something to get it there.

^symphonix – everything you want^

How much of a reduction in life you figure it takes before there’s an implication that life is no longer needed and/or no longer wanted here on our planet. You think it possible that there are solar/galactic/universal audit trails? If so, prolly going to be a lot more audit trails nested in there. Almost like Synthetic CDO’s that are based upon and travel from to and through some base structures. Damn, that sounds like a logistical nightmare. Boy…I sure hope there are some folks thinking in streams like these. Our administration costs could skyrocket if we aren’t somewhat prepared for administratives like that.

Synthetic CDO

For anyone so inclined to wander
^A SPLIT SECOND – MAMBO WITCH (EXTENDED VERSION) 1988^

Joining the galactic community sounds expensive.

Of course, I hear joining the EU is pretty goddamn expensive too.

Apparently, leaving the EU is pretty goddamn expensive as well.

^Story of an Artist by Daniel Johnston^

Hey, Greenpeace! You guys/gals have paid positions?

I know a guy who is looking for work. He’s OK with heights and types @ 40 wpm.

I had to sort through missives 001 through 081 to find that formatting. Dunno why I thought there was more to it than that. Oh well, was kinda fun to scan some of the older writings. I’ve discovered that I am somewhat…wordy.

*gasp*
^Anne Clark – Our Darkness^

Speaking of being wordy, ever heard of this?

Neurasthenia

Me either. Damn interesting tho. Sounds like Van Deusen and Beard were at odds as to exactly what the root cause of this condition was, but it seems they were in agreement that it was related to some kind of detachment or dissociative something. REALLY interesting that it was associated with “anyone who lives within the monetary system” and also a “culture-bound syndrome”. No fucking wonder the condition has been deprecated, redacted and/or relegated to the footnotes. Can’t have people thinking that society and/or monetary systems can make you sick. This was all going on in the big fucking middle of the Industrial Revolution too. Ya think maybe people were lamenting days gone by? Developing a hate for the future via a really fucking nasty and confusing present?

Nah. Unpossible
^Killing Joke – Eighties^

Are you fucking shitting me?

Google Says a Change in Its Algorithm Will Highlight ‘Original Reporting’

First Trump appears to kowtow to fake news, and not a day later, Google is changing their algorithm to give precedence to “whoever gets there first”? Are you really trying to tell me that news reporting agencies and media groups aren’t completely inundated with moles and informers who get paid to steal stories/information prior to publication so the competition can scoop them? Not only that, did Google really just throw it’s hat into the peer-reviewed and/or authentication/validation ring? Whoever appears first in the results is authentic/genuine?

Fuckin-a…and I thought I was an idiot for spending my days pondering time-travel and teleportation. You guys are fucking morons. Of course, thinking about it now, there is a flip side. Anyone engaging in journalistic thievery are going to somewhat expose themselves by rushing to print and trying to beat everyone else to publication so that Google will boost them in the rankings. It’ll take some time for all that to shake out tho. Could be a lot of heads roll. I take my earlier thoughts back Google. Well played.

(maybe)
^Nothing in the Sun – Ceremony^

Thinking about that now, there is another downside tho. This could potentially give basically “data monopolies” to certain publishers. I write about all kinds of stuff that I hear in “the news”. Am I no longer allowed to write about it? This kinda smacks of broadcast news back in the 1970s and maybe 1980s. You get the story, or you don’t. If you beat the competition to a story? They may not bother reporting on the story at all.

But yeah, I’m wondering as to what exactly will constitute “originality” within the scope of specific events. Not only that, but how are you going to handle those common courtesy types of references. Like, where USA Today will start off a story with “The New York Times is reporting that…”? Especially when the story devolves to “But CNN has reported that…”.

How you gonna handle shit like that?

In cases like that, the story has become the story itself and the stories themselves, and an entirely new story has emerged as a result of the original reporting on…whatever in the fuck they’re reporting on. Anyway, I would think a purveyor of information (Google) is not going to be able to retain your illusory image of non-bias with a change like this. May as well go ahead an clutter up the empty space on that main Google page with paid advertisements and other bullshit. The cloak of your plain-covered wrapper advertising an unbiased Google is completely blown.

^Belouis Some – Imagination (Official Video) (HD)^

Maybe someone is simply missing their monopolies?

Seeking that olden fyre of yore.

Thing is…was that monopoly ever yours?

Or did you just read about it.

Is “olden” and “yore” in the same sentence…overkill?

Redundant?

Even if I’m purposely attempting to be ironic and/or overly expressive and excessive?

^Saint Etienne – You’re In A Bad Way (Video)^

Much pee pee needs to come out of me.

brb

K…I’m back. I was washing my hands seeing as how I touched my small and filthy penis, and made the mistake of looking in the mirror whilst I swashed my mitts. As I looked at myself, I got to wondering if there are some better glasses frames out there for me. Maybe these black horn-rimmed glasses aren’t the best for a face like mine.

A face like mine

What kind of eyewear would best compliment a face like mine. The only thing that I could come up with that might better compliment my face, is a welding mask. I wonder if they make those welding masks with a prescription-strength glass.

^The Cure – Lullaby (Official Music Video)^

Impossible. Teleportation is impossible. The complete disassembly and reassembly of a lifeform is impossible. There’s no precedent…there are no precedents. There are no models…there’s nothing but science fiction and fantasy.

I agree with you on all counts

On all counts, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

^Billy Idol- Flesh for Fantasy (lyric video)^

Sometimes, there just isn’t enough to talk about in order to accommodate all the images I stumble across. I am wondering how your week was.

Yeah...you

How the fuck are you? All of this bullshit is pointless without you, and I have a concern for your well-being. Kind of a passive concern, also a clueless concern, but a concern nonetheless. Been watching a lot of compilation videos lately of road ragers, and you are likely out in that mess day after day. Gotta be rough. Seems like the slightest of things will set someone off, and mistakes on the roadways are strictly taboo. No margins for error. No margins at all based on what I’ve been seeing. I wonder if there are people who get in their cars or on the motorcycles or whatever, and get out on the roadways for the specific purpose of finding someone to get pissed off at.

May wanna keep an eye out for pricks like that
^Lords Of Acid – Take Control^

Speaking of these videos that I’ve been watching, some of the “UK Road Rage” videos are pretty funny, some are downright depressing, but there seems to be an overall theme as to establishing who is right/wrong in a given situation. Like, actively pursuing justice in real time. No court, no judge, no jury, no law…have this out, right fucking here, right fucking now.

This isn’t endemic to just and only the UK, but on watching these videos, I woulda assumed that British drivers would be a tad more friendly, and MUCH more forgiving than drivers in America. Small roads, narrow roads, close quarters, lots of twists and turns, lots of intercepts and crossings, few lanes, and MANY more types of vehicles operating in the same environment, not mention lots of pedestrians. Seems like you’d almost have to be a friendly and forgiving person to survive in such an environment.

That appears to not be the case. What really stands out tho? The curses. I’ve watched enough of these vids now to kinda get the feeling that the first word(s) out of a driver’s mouth on the video is indicative of where that person is from.

Bellend

Upon watching vid after vid, trends began to appear. I could only assume that people from a certain area have more of a propensity to respond a certain way, or call someone a certain something, based on the regional dialect. “Bellend” was the one that kinda got me to thinking, as it appeared that maybe people in the northern regions were more apt to use this word first. Not that I am an expert in British accents, but I do try and keep my ears open/be mindful of them. Was also kinda surprised that the use of “bollocks” is rare in these vids. Did hear it a few times tho. Anyway, just thought that language thing was kinda interesting.

^Deadmau5 + Kaskade – Move For Me [Extended Mix] (1080p) || HD^

Oooooh!!!! I fucking LIKE that one. Wanna see what it looks like at a faster speed? Me too, but I’m not gonna add it here. You wanna speed it up yourself? Right click the link, copy image address, go here, paste the link address in the box, upload the image, and tinker with the speeds to your heart’s content. I’m gonna warn you in advance tho, that one does not speed up well. Speed seemed to cap for me at about 1000%. I’m sure an image with less frames would do better, and at 120 frames total, that image is a shade beefy.

Which reminds me, anyone else notice all the “asteroid” and “asteroid close approach” news lately? It’s been almost daily for several weeks now. Is someone trying to tell us in a roundabout way that some new NEO tracking system has come online and it’s now not only being used, but being used to great effect? If so, I can only imagine how much bad news is ahead, and not just and only the operating costs. Guess I could search for press releases regarding any new tracking systems, but it just seems weird that some new asteroid is in the news almost every goddamn day.

Weird things are strange
^OMC – How Bizarre^

Is it just me? Or do we have a discrepancy between this and this?

Thought maybe I’d be clever and see if there was a song named 137, or maybe a song centered around 137, but found those tones instead. Listened to the first to see how clear it was, then checked the second to see how clear it was, and immediately noticed there was a discrepancy between the two. Wanna see how bad it is? Do this:

  • Open the first video in one tab, pause it, then open the second video in a second tab and pause it as well.
  • Once you have both vids open, start playing the first vid, pop over to the other tab and start playing the second vid.
  • You should hear some oscillation with both vids playing at the same time.

If you wanna play further, open that second link in a tab, then open this in another tab. You’ll get a similar oscillation, but it’ll be different because one is a sine wave, and the other is a square wave, whereas the first two were both sine waves.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a book that contains everything you need to know about life, but not need this particular book?

Wouldn’t it be great to have a book that contains the answer to every question you might ever have, but not need this particular book?

Was just pondering the concept of “social ills”, and it occurred to me that being respecters of privacy is a biggie. We are given a choice whether or not to respect someone else’s privacy, and the choice(s) we make in this regard could be considered “seeds of discord” or “seeds of harmony”.

^Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Soulwax Remix)^

“Pondering the concept of social ills” is something that I personally would consider as “sowing seeds of discord” because I’m gonna have to stick my nose in society’s business in order to figure out what is wrong. I’m then going to have to tell someone what I think is wrong. I may do so before reflecting and evaluating how I personally contribute to this “ill” in my own life, and that almost assures a twisted tree will grow from this seed of my being nosy.

Sow the seeds of (something)

An idiom, eh? Do I use those a lot in my writing?

‘with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord’

Proverbs 6:14 (ESV)

All of Proverbs 6 kinda talks about how to not be a respecter of others’ privacy, and what you should do in the event you do stick your schnoz somewhere it does not belong. But where all of this started was by actually contemplating Rome and wondering why it is always made out to be this hideous place full of blood-thirsty debauchees. I look at the architecture(s) and infrastructure(s) and wonder…welp, if all the Romans were doing was partying and fucking, how in the hell did all that shit get built? How in the hell did they get anything at all done? Is it because Rome “collapsed” that it is looked upon as a shithole that died because it was a twisted and perverted society that choked on its own vomit? Or maybe even choked on someone else’s vomit? And yeah, that can apparently happen, and there’s no way of knowing who’s vomit it is.

Maybe the Romans contracted out all the construction work, and the Romans themselves kicked back and partied during the construction period.

/me shrugs
^Klaxons – Gravity’s Rainbow (Soulwax Remix)^

I started this thing back on August 19th. Today is September 4th. What in the fuck have I been doing for the past 2+ weeks?

The short answer is “not much”

Is output indicative of effort? Lemme splain a bit. Ya see, when I started this here missive, I was coming off of a Jordan Peterson bender, had a lot of thoughts on the things discussed, somehow wound up in the book of Proverbs…and that’s where it all went wrong. Ya see, if you identify as a female, Proverbs is likely not the book for you. There is all kinds of good stuff in Proverbs, but you’re gonna have to get through a lot of references to whores, loose women, and weaponized female genitalia in order to get to that good stuff. I’ve nothing against women nor your delicate pretties, but basically, I tripped myself up a bit by starting to dig in Proverbs because of some…lets just say, “bad personal experiences of my own” with respect to this particular book in the Bible. A lot of bad memories came flooding back, so I stopped.

^Club Des Belugas – The Beat Is Rhythm^

Ya know the one commonality that all political parties seem to share?

They want it all

Kinda ironic that the one trait all parties/groups seem to share is that they want to share nothing. I guess that’s why it’s really no surprise to me that so many lefties have a strange liking for President Trump. He’s somewhat of an outsider with respect to Republicans, therefore, he’s someone that can be leveraged. He’s a political paper towel.

 Single use and disposable

A something operating under the banner of the opposition that can be used to cripple that opposition. Wait…cripple? Why would you ever want to cripple someone or some thing? Prolly shouldn’t have to look far to answer that question.

Digress
^Emmanuelle – Italove – DEEWE015^

So yeah, your political party or group or whatever, wants everything you want, everything your way, and you want anyone who opposes you, or is different from you, to have nothing.

But we’re talking about government(s), so were’ talking about commerce, and not much else. Does it make sense to eliminate your opposition? A battery requires both positive and negative charges in order to function properly, and those neutral thingies get ignored completely, even tho I’m pretty sure they are required as well. So for me and my journey, I’m right fucking back to thinking about that automatonic group where the individual is nullified. Wait…isn’t that the same principle that the Nipponic interests once took? Allegiance to the Emperor, only the Emperor, and you have to die in order to prove that allegiance.

Hrm...
^The Chemical Brothers – The Test (Official Music Video)^

Rambled a bit there, and you can’t see inside my head, but all I could think about in that previous bit was “a necessity for tertiary allegiance”. Like, for the self. For the self to be ebullient, vibrant, and full of vitality and verve, you gotta have options. Attack, defend, stand your ground. Wait… is it possible that a Neutron, Electron or Proton behaves differently in a Democrat than in a Republican? Like, can particles…themselves…mutate?

DUH! Of course they can

I think I may be thinking about this all wrong. I’ve gotten entirely too “Yin/Yang” in my thinking about Electrons and Protons, which means my thinking about Neutrons is all wrong as well. How did I miss that? The Neutrons in my models have at least two modes of “neutral”, so why wouldn’t Protons and Electrons, and even other particles, also be modal? Attack, defend, stand your ground/ignore entirely.

Colors? Colors are potentially indicative of modes of modals? I’ve also got to consider speed(s), distance(s) and vectors. Something blue from one angle could appear blue-green from another. Puts a whole new spin on ranging and approaches/departures, especially at certain velocities. Not to mention that even the unaries are going to be mutative.

Interesting

Estimating specific subatomic approaches. Jesus, have we really gotten that smart? Or did we just stumble across it thanks to our brute-force methodologies.

/shrug
^LCD Soundsytem – You Wanted A Hit (Soulwax remix) High Quality^

Calculating the probability/probabilities of deviation based on the approach/departure and/or proximity of influence could be a bear. Gives whole new meaning to the concept of “back away slowly”. I’m thinking primarily about entanglement(s) there. Especially when considering the “deceptive” practices employed by things like viruses. Something models that behavior/ability, and to think that it could not be employed by inorganic or less-organic matter is prolly going to be a mistake. I mean fuck, Pyrite exists…right?

Can you imagine homing in on a signal that you thought was Helium-3, only to discover that the source was actually Lead? What you are using that Helium-3 for, and when you discover your mistake could weigh heavily on any outcome.

(no pun intended)

Gotta take “lensing” types of distortions into consideration as well. At speed, one could easily wind up in position you don’t want to be in, and fast.

I’m thinking so hard that my tits are jiggling.

Weird...I have no tits

OK, you’re likely wondering what I’m on about here, and I’m thinking about the identification and tracking of atoms, at distance(s), and at speed(s). I’m also thinking about the ranging types of information that need to be taken into consideration in “the void(s) of space”. If you are on the moon, and trying to collect Helium-3 atom by atom so as to reduce the “bycatch” types of chaff in the harvest, you’re prolly going to have to think in ways that are less on the human scale. Or at least, be more scalar in your thinking between the human and Helium-3 atom scales.

Also, if you are blazing through the Universe in a spaceship at C * 71, you’re going to need to be able to quickly and accurately identify matter off your nose in the direction(s) of travel. You’re also going to want to be able to quickly and accurately identify matter that is on intercepting or overtaking trajectories. Not to mention, that the further you travel at those speeds, the more likely you are to start trailing some stuff. We’re not talking about an aircraft traveling in a somewhat stable atmosphere, we’re talking about a spaceship traveling in more or less a vacuum, and this “space” and these “spaces” are likely to have both stable and unstable properties, as we negotiate and traverse membranes and pockets of all kinds.

That’s what I’m thinking about here, but I’m trying to keep my thinking both here and there at the same time.

By the way…

C * 71 = 21,285,264,518 m/s

Yep, that’s 21+ billion

with a “B”

…meters per second.

That equates to 47,613,780,686.29 miles per hour.

Or, 13,226,050.19 miles per second…

if you prefer

At that speed, you could travel from Earth to Mars in 18.82 seconds. And that’s when Earth and Mars are in opposition and both planets are at aphelion.

^Another World^

Not thinking just an only in terms of interstellar travel. Thinking about all kinds of applications. Being able to identify and track a single atom or even smaller particles within the “chaos” of non-controlled and/or less-controlled environments? Woah Nelly! That’d be something. I keep wondering tho…

Q: Am I going to bump into “the soul” at some point?

A: ¿?¿

The spirit? Would I have a fucking clue what I was looking at? Would I care?

Would I be me if I didn’t stumble?

Gotta wonder about the nature of change, who is receptive to it, and when.

I might turn into some prick that no one likes.

Can't have that
^Propellerheads — Take California^

A little over 3,000 people die in car accidents every day. The city that I live in has 142,816 people according to the 2018 census. If 3,000 people died in this city every day, it would take a little over 47 days for them all to die. Now, my thinking here is distribution of wealth…

so to speak

As long as these numbers are onesie-twosie types of deaths that are spread out over large areas, we tend to just shake our heads and shrug. But if your entire neighborhood and a huge chunk of the area in which you live disappeared in the span of a day, maybe that’s why “mass shootings”, “disease outbreaks”, “disasters” and similar are (apparently) such shocking concepts?

I’m gonna digress, because that’s not really where I was going.

‘Nearly 1.25 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled. More than half of all road traffic deaths occur among young adults ages 15-44.’

– Source: Google, 06 September 2019

OK, so, at 3,287 deaths per day, you could wipe out my city in 43 days instead of the aforementioned 47+ days. That aggregate adds up, and we just shaved almost a week off a bunch of people’s lives…

let's keep going

Texas Cities by Population

#522 on that list is Winnsboro, they have exactly 3,287 residents living there, and that’s exactly the average killed per day in “road crashes” according to Google and I guess W.H.O. Sorry Winnsboro, but we’re gonna have to temporarily change your name to Loseboro since you drew the short stick in the galactic lotto.

There are 1,435 entries on that list, and 914 of those entries are at 3,287 residents or less. There are 1,711 cities in total and some of those are combined with other cities on the list, so it’s prolly safe to say that there are at least 1,000 cities on that list that could be easily wiped out in the span of a day if all “road crashes” were to occur in just one place.

Where am I going with this?

I dunno. Just wondering aloud a bit as to the justification(s) of statistical data. Will you personally tolerate 3,287 people dying per day of West Nile Virus, Cholera or some other disease? More than that, would you tolerate these numbers if they were happening in your own neck of the woods?

It’s no longer September 4th…it’s now Thursday 12 September. This is the longest it’s ever taken me to write one of these things for Roob.

I'm not sure how to feel about that

Spent some time getting my own blog in order this week, but I’ve still got 5 drafts sitting there staring me in the face. One requires that I rewatch the Brexit Movie, so I can’t finish that fucker until I rewatch the damn thing. Another is one that I’ve been chewing on for well over 2 years. Not sure what this has to do with this whatever that I am currently writing, other than this thing here really doesn’t feel too “missivey”. I’ve gotten too goddamn wordy. I thought about doing a a Random Wikipedia Attack, and I really want to do one, but I’m not gonna. Not here anyway. I do have another “missive” to write today tho. I need to get #137 to Roob before I go to bed tonight.

What's say we get to it!

One Or Two Things…

Dear Reader, today is a momentous date at the LoL: Thing One and Thing Two have reached the Age of Majority; Loopy and Kit-Kat or ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Christ’ as I frequently referred to them whilst they were kicking the hell out each other and my womb 18 years ago, are celebrating their birthday…

So, for a bit of fun, I thought I’d look at the 23rd August in history, to see what I could shamble up for such an auspicious date. And I’m gonna start with plane crash because of, well, because of a ‘Pointless sync’ that I told Cade about…

Roob tells Cade her pointless freckleton sync

*/flicks ash… Looks like her MP’s a Remoaner, Clicky… /drags… A bit too fond of a plane trip or two by the looks of it… /smokes…*

‘The Freckleton air disaster occurred on 23 August 1944, when a Consolidated B-24 Liberator of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) crashed into the centre of the village of Freckleton, Lancashire, England. The aircraft crashed into the Holy Trinity Church of England School, demolishing three houses and the Sad Sack Snack Bar. The death toll was 61, including 38 children.’

… Sixty eight years, or 816 months, after the Freckleton air disaster, there was another aerial crash. This time of a Ball-Lune…

‘On 23 August 2012, a hot air balloon crashed in stormy weather on the Ljubljana Marshes in central Slovenia, killing 6 of the 26 people on board.’

… The 23rd August was the last day on Earth for many Pompeians in AD79. Or maybe not…

‘Archaeologists in Italy have uncovered an inscription they say may show that the history books have been wrong for centuries.

‘Historians have long believed that Mount Vesuvius erupted on 24 August 79 AD, destroying the nearby Roman city of Pompeii.

‘But now, an inscription has been uncovered dated to mid-October – almost two months later.

‘Italy’s culture minister labelled it “an extraordinary discovery.”‘

… A mere 1,819 years after that, the date marks the start of the Southern Cross expedition, which ushered in Antarctic exploration and paved the way for the likes of Amundsen, Shackleton and Scott…

‘Despite the groundbreaking achievements in Antarctic survival and travel, Borchgrevink was never accorded the heroic status of Scott or Shackleton, and his expedition was soon forgotten in the dramas which surrounded these and other Heroic Age explorers. Roald Amundsen, conqueror of the South Pole in 1911, acknowledged that Borchgrevink’s expedition had removed the greatest obstacles to Antarctic travel, and had opened the way for all the expeditions that followed.’

*/flicks ash… Very hot and cold… /final drag… Covering extremes…*

… And 10 years before the arrival of my beloved Things One and Two, the world was already wrapped up for them in a net…
