  1. From your link to the Wikipedia article on the Annihilation movie…

“Due to a poorly received test screening, David Ellison, a financier and producer at Paramount, became concerned that the film was “too intellectual” and “too complicated”, and demanded changes to make it appeal to a wider audience…”

You know, this may seem unrelated to spiritual types of matters, but since when are movies reflective of a short term investment? Seems to me that in this age of owning and protecting as many Intellectual Properties as you can get your hands on, studios would want films with long legs. Films that are generating revenues well beyond its projected lifecycle. This film seems like a film with long legs. I mean, have movie producers forgotten what an intellectual investment films like this are to people who view it? Films like this, and the concepts they address, are going to gnaw on people for a very long time. That means that 5-10 years down the road and perhaps even longer, people are still going to be watching it. The “financial bubble” is going to be more lateral/horizontal than vertical. Maybe “wider” actually mean narrower? Wait, is it “narrower” or “more narrow”?

Regardless of whether the producer meant “dumber” in this context, I think it important to note that today’s dummy is tomorrow’s genius. We all start off pretty dumb. I wonder what forces are at work to help make us smarter or keep us unwashed masses dumb.

But what the fuck do I know. Maybe that’s why I’m not in the movie bidness.

I enjoyed the flick even tho it didn’t make sense in a lot of places. It was clunky, it wanted to be smart, and ironically the movie IS smart, but it watched like a movie that is going to be 2.5+ hours long and never gets there. All the more reason to maybe read the book(s) someday? It just seemed to me like there were huge chunks missing from the movie. Not plot holes as much as things that just flat weren’t there. But I must admit that as I’ve reflected on the pace of the movie, and pondered why certain characters seemed to waft into various forms of some implied psychosis on top of the acid trip that is already taking place on-screen, I had to wonder about the nature of how individuals deal with certain aspects of change. Currently, there appear to be two camps….we are alone/we are not alone. But one of those camps is divided into two camps as to what “we are not alone” means. Some think it’s aliens or other organic types of life, and some think it is strictly spiritual. Like, we ARE alone, but only in the physical sense.

The opposites of each of the “are alone/are not alone” are jarring when you are standing on one side or the other. So I guess I could kinda see someone folding under pressure quite rapidly when things get sideways. But, unless I’m mistaken, hadn’t all the characters that went into “the shimmer” been observing the phenomenon for some time from the outside before going in? Not to mention that 1) it appears they had been planning on going in for some time, and 2) they all knew “the shimmer” was growing and encroaching on their base outside, so they already knew they were going to be in it at some point. I dunno, just thinking out loud at why the story put forward in the movie seemed to have so many holes.

    1. From the wiki link, it seems the film is based on the first book of a trilogy. And the director only read the first book, so maybe the holes stem from that…

*I hope you’re referring to the ‘horrible boss’, Scott Rudin, who wouldn’t allow the changes Ellison wanted to make, Clicky… /cocks eyebrow…*

Maybe the poor reaction to the test screening spooked David Ellison. He is a pilot; maybe he feared the movie would crash and burn…

  2. Yesterday, I went through this town

    and I saw this

1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; KJV

and I saw there is this today, which happened on the SOLSTICE

6 months and 6 years between the winter solstice of 2012 and the summer solstice 2019

      1. ‘A United Airlines flight arriving at Newark International Airport in New Jersey, had to be taken out of service after ants spilled out of a carry-on bag and into the cabin, according to CBS Philadelphia.

‘One passenger on the flight, from Venice to Newark, described the situation by saying: “The guy in front pulls down his case (which btw isn’t zipped shut, as middle aisle guy notes to me in an aside) and ants ants ants spill out, running in every which direction.”
