tenorWell hello there

I have working headphones again.

The 30-Day Music Challenge has ended.

We’re back in bidness as usual which is usually unusual.

Un...use...you...will

Weird. Sounds almost like a command or strong suggestion. Something Yoda might say.

Unuse you will...save you it can!

Did you know that there is only one character difference between “strong suggestion”  and “string suggestion”?

Typos are sometimes wonderful things

Makes me wonder if “the unusual” is considered (by some) to be unusable by those same sum of some(s). The fringe(s). The theoretical(s) and hypothetical(s). That which is of no immediate and/or practical application. Some kind of chaff that exists when you are seeking only wheat, or maybe the dirt that clings to a vegetable pulled from the ground, or the hide/skin and guts of a prey item. Useless stuff. Garbage. Layers that must be shed in order to get to the good stuff.

Been long pondering the embedding of meaning(s) in certain English words that potentially only certain “in the know” types of people may be able to interpret. And I’m not talking about glyphs or symbols or petroglyphs or pictographs or semaphores or ciphers or codes in the usual sense. There’s more to language than just and only some direct and distinct tonal quality that means just and only one thing. And yes, I realize that some words have multiple meanings, and also realize that meaning(s) themselves can have multiple meanings. What I’ve pondered is the sequencing of certain tonal qualities to create entirely other meanings. Perhaps some meanings that are so close to the original meaning(s) that they are almost undetectable. Such as the word “unsual”. Slap the right accent(s) on such a word, or use it in a certain context within a certain string or thread? You could potentially derail someone’s train of thought. Think, puns. Or maybe regional dialects/accents. You can go from there.

Have you ever heard of something called “time on page”? It’s a metric use to determine how long a visitor spends on a particular webpage. What’s that? You were not aware such things were possible to even know?

Page Time

No wait, that's not it

Paging

FUCK!!! That's not it either

Session Description Protocol

GAH!!! I am totally off-course

What Really Happens in a Therapy Session

I’m getting further into the fringes. Unusual stuff that un-use you will. Visiting web pages is not a therapy session, nor is visiting web pages anything even remotely like a therapy session. Visiting web pages is a session, nothing more, no therapeutic value whatsoever.

What Is Time on Page and Why Is It Important?

BINGO!!!

They wanna know how long you spent, where, all so it can be estimated as to what you saw, and ultimately the likelihood of what you absorbed/what potentially influenced you. I mean, if you visit a webpage that takes the average reader 5 minutes to read, but you only spend 17 seconds on that page, and you then run straight to AmazonDOTcalm and purchase a pair of “Silkie’s Sultry Slippers”? There may be a connection to be made. Especially if that web page you only spent 17 second on contained an advertisement for…Silkie’s Sultry Slippers. Or maybe even if that web page contained an advertisement for “Bob’s Dog Insole Inserts”. Information like that is highly prized I would imagine.

^Rush – Subdivisions (with lyrics)^

I guess that impeachment thingie is starting in earnest. Strange that Brexit news has been so quiet. Of course, there is all that “city vs rural” kinds of crap going on in Virginia. And I think some royals from the UK have abandoned ship to some degree. I also think I heard somewhere that Southend is beefing up enforcement on automobile crime, although I’m not sure what all that would entail. Oh, and some dude from Basildon has been thrown in the hoosegow for taking bribes, and this same dude appears to have been in charge of installing fire alarms in Grenfell Tower. A plane dumped jet fuel on school children. The preliminary report on Atlas Air Flight 3591 has been released, and it appears that the captain may have accidentally/inadvertently activated the automatic go-around system (TOGO), but none of the flight crew seems to have noticed. Iran shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet. A bunch of really weird patents have been issued. Sikhs living in the Punjab area of India are now able to make pilgrimages to Pakistan via a new “peace corridor” between the two countries. Terry Jones appears to have passed.

Did I miss anything?
^Inspection (Check One) (Remastered)^

giphy-6

Was pretty young when I first heard Devo’s song “Wiggly World”, and at the time, and even up until only recently, I only associated “wiggly things” with human behaviors. Trends are like this today, like that tomorrow. I’m held in esteem today, on a shit-list tomorrow.

Wiggly

That said, over the past few days I’ve been wandering around earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes, and wondering about how energy transfers from vertical waves to horizontal waves. More than that, maybe even perhaps horizontal waves are actually vertical waves that are, contextually, misinterpreted. Suddenly this morning, I stumble across the image above when searching for geometry gifs. You are likely thinking pure chance. Law of averages. I’m digging for nothing in particular, spot something that is contextually applicable, therefore I made a conscious decision to grab the image and use it because it was beneficial for me to do so. That image is nothing more than low hanging fruit.

Fair enough

However, we live in a targeted world of targeted advertising, where there are those that are using anything and everything at their disposal to find you and target you. In fact, that’s probably the reason there’s all this “targeted individual” stuff that appeared on the horizon sometime back. A way of getting cutting-edge types of thinking and/or technology into the public consciousness so that the blade can be dulled over time. Get people to start chalking the concept up to madness and/or crazy people on the fringes so that it will be immediately dismissed as impossible nonsense.

^Triumph – Time Goes By – with Lyrics on Screen^

We humans aren’t that clever, amirite?

Q: Who told you that you weren’t clever and/or not clever enough?

A: ¿?¿

“Humans aren’t that clever.” Sounds almost like something uttered in The Garden of Eden. “Who told you that you were naked?” I’m not suggesting that Satan is involved here. Not suggesting that Satan is telling all of you uneducated and inexperienced dunces what a bunch of idiots you really are.

Just wondering aloud

It’s never straight up and down.

^Wiggly World^

tumblr_nv7p2xlisr1qz4vjko1_500

You know what has been completely absent from my life recently?

New films

Is anyone even making movies anymore? Seems to be more focus as of late within the entertainment industry on television series. And where is the new music at. Maybe there’s a shift going on. Some something I am unaware of. Unpossible. I know almost everything.

^Starfucker // STRFKR – Golden Light^

Saw a “I don’t get it” type of comment from someone some time back during the 30-Day Challenge, and I’ve thought a lot about it. I don’t have an answer. If for no other reason, this is not a one-man/one-person rodeo. I can only tell you what I personally think. That said, we are, most of us, bombarded with information daily, from multiple sources, on a wide array of topics, and the only common denominator in every single case…

is you

It doesn’t matter where information originates, what matters is where that information ends up, and how that information is translated and interpreted by you. Only then does the source of the information matter.

EX: If someone approaches you on the street and hands you a leaflet that says “GO FUCK YOURSELF!”, how you assimilate that information is all that really matters. Why is this person handing out leaflets that say what they say? Why did they hand one to me? Why did I take it? Why should I go fuck myself at this person’s prompting? What should I do now?

There are some of us who spend time trying to figure out why we do the things we do. Why we think how we think. What the mechanics behind thought, and what are the things in our lives that are influencing and/or attempting to influence how we think or what we do, or even what we do not think or do not do. Where do I fit? Why do I not fit? Existential types of “nonsense” that likely makes no sense to anyone but ourselves.

^The Smiths – Golden Lights^

There appear to be people in this world that do not fit in the same way and ways that others fit in. If we don’t belong here, then what in the FUCK are we doing here? Some choose to stop at the “why are we here?” question, and await an answer. Others, may decide to keep asking the question repeatedly whilst searching for an answer. Still others may choose to rework and reword the question in order find their answer(s). And I’d venture a guess that there are some that choose to skip over the question entirely, and just kinda do their own thing. Multifaceted approaches to a singular question…

Why are we here?

Wait, that’s not right. The “question” is as multifaceted as the approaches.

Why are we here? Why am I here?

Not everything falls within the group context. Even that which does fall within the group context doesn’t always and forever fall within the group context. Everyone pees and poops, but everyone also (for the most part) pees and poops…alone. So yeah, layers to reality, realities and truth(s), and exploring those concepts. ‘Cept like, in a more public way. Writing openly and honestly about our thoughts and experiences as opposed to always turning everything inward. Maybe even helping others along the way.

That new whatever virus that appeared in China in early/mid December, now appears to have appeared in Seattle. Dunno if you noticed, but that Wikipedia article on “Interruption Science” mentions aviation being an example of a “high-risk workplace environment”.

Spoke–Hub Distribution Paradigm

Now, not that I personally know anyone who has been recently diagnosed with pneumonia or anything, but right now, there are information gathering and information reporting hubs and spokes that are spinning a lot of wheels to figure out what in the flying fuck is going on with the new whatever it is, how it is spreading.

Sound familiar?
^Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime (Gigamesh Remix)^

Does pestilence and disease typically precede war? Or does pestilence and disease typically follow. I’m not a detective or anything, it just occurs to me that you are unlikely to be able to fight a war if all your soldiers are sick. That is of course, unless you’ve isolated pockets here and there which are separate and independent of your main forces and/or home territory. Especially if these isolated pockets are armed with more or less automated weapons. You may not be able to defeat your enemies in the way and ways you’d like to, but you sure can bloody their noses and put a cramp in their style. I’m right back to horizontal waves being misinterpreted as vertical waves, and vice-versa.

Le sigh

The main problem that I see is perspective, especially that hindsight angle. Hindsight can really fuck with you if one isn’t careful. It can make one a trendy one who thinks only in trends. Thinking like that where no trends exist? Disastrous.

Depending on application of course

It may just make you a dull nothing who is not capable of much of anything…’cept nothing.

^The Camera Eye^

It has always has confused me as to why, in the case of the Sendai Earthquake, did it take so long for the tsunami to reach shore. And why has the name of this event changed so much over time? Is it because “this event” cascaded into “these events”? The earthquake? The tsunami(s)? Fukushima? I should digress before I get too far offshore.

2011 Tōhoku Earthquake And Tsunami

The epicenter wasn’t that far offshore, the wave(s) are said to move at 500 mph plus or minus a few, so why did the water waves themselves take so long to reach shore? Does it have anything to do with the waves traveling against the rotation of the planet? Is the fact that the earthquake lasted so long a factor? Is the fact that the ground itself moved quite far a factor? Does the fact that time itself changed for the entire planet as a result of this earthquake have anything to do with anything? What is a time-shift anyway? How does matter accommodate a change in energy/energies? How does both matter and energy accommodate a change in spin which results in an alteration in time?

I can only wonder how such shifts/adjustments affect what is known as radioactive decay. Not only that, but are any such changes measurable within the scope and scale of how we view and perceive time? If there is a measurable time, you can bet your ass that such a thing as “immeasurable time” also exists, and it likely exists in the same stream and streams as measurable time(s).

^”Add It Up” w/ lyrics by THE VIOLENT FEMMES^

giphy-9

I admit that I was aware of the more intricate clockworks of the Universe from a young age, but never paid much mind to the goings on because I was taught not to.

That's God's territory

Oh, and astrology is Satan/Lucifer/The Devil’s territory, so one needs to stay away from that as well. So yeah, where do I belong? What is “my” territory? Do I even have any? More than that, when and where do I become an individual? Where does everything else stop, and I begin?

Now, one reading this might start to think that I am some kind of egomaniacal lunatic bent on conquest and world domination. But you only see a part of me via these writings. Lots of stuff you miss. But then again, maybe you are looking for something that qualifies me according to some need that you yourself have. Wait…where was I originally going with this thought? Oh yes, universal clockworks and how time and times are set and adjusted. Bumps, grinds, inversions and advances to keep things moving as they should be moving. I mean, you really don’t think that every single grain of sand on the entire planet is moving at the same speed do you? That every molecule of water and air are moving in the same direction at the same velocity? That everything moves at the same speed, all at the same time? Nah, of course you don’t. That’d be completely ridiculous. Nonsense.

Rubbish
^Rocky Horror Time Warp^

Breaking away from the known is rough. Being pried away from the known is equally rough. Yet, we seem to live in a world where both concepts are prevalent, and one might even argue…necessary. You can let your mind wonder at will regarding what it means to “break away” and/or what it means “to be pried away”. Situations where things just aren’t working out as one had hoped. People are doing things you think they should not be doing. Or maybe you yourself are doing something that just doesn’t feel right anymore. I mean, who knew that eating an entire tub of margarine every day was bad for you? How could you possibly know that some readily available something was going to clog your heart with fatbergs that need to be plunged by medical plumbers? Question is, now what?

I suggest outrage

“They” shouldn’t be allowed to sell this stuff. Consumers are uneducated dummies, and we need someone to look out for us and take care of us. What does any of that have to do with breaking out and/or breaking away? I dunno. Figure it out your own damn self. You’re the smart one with all the answers. Oh, but do let me know what you find. I’d be interested in knowing how I should think.

Ya know, going forward

Cade’s second song pick…

Before I get to the song that makes me think about me, prolly best for me to say thanks to Roob for enduring this. She’d had to jump through a lot of hoops over the past month, she was ill for a good portion of that time, I think part of her family was ill over the holidays, but she’s hung in there and gotten the job done. Also gotta make a note that it was great that others participated too. Always nice when others contribute, and good conversation is good. Ya’ll have submitted a lot of music that I’ve never heard before, and I likely never would have heard it had you not chimed in. From me, thanks.

For those unaware, I’ve been writing for and with Roob for 3 years now. We celebrated (with zero fanfare) our 3 year anniversary back in December, and it’s been hella fun. I’ve learned a lot from her. Nod to Legiron and CynaraeStMary for their friendship and mentoring as well.

There’s nothing for me to plug here, I have nothing to gain by doing this, so I don’t feel entirely guilty for what I am about to do. However, music that makes me think about me, is music that I myself wrote and performed. Years were spent sitting alone in a room writing and playing music. I have a giant box filled with cassettes on which contain these efforts, hundred upon hundreds of songs and song ideas, and its unfortunate that many of the songs that I am thinking of right now I’ll not be able to share with you here. Just no way for me to share them at this time. However, I will share a something I don’t really expect anyone to listen to, but yeah…this shit right here, makes me, think about me.

BTW, if you have an urge to listen to what little I was able to transfer to digital from analog, there’s a playlist of various nonsense of mine from 1989-1992.

Day 29: songs remembered from childhood

Cade’s first song pick…

A lot of this is going to come from television. I can see no way around it. It’s either going to be television, church or school since that is the holy Trinitron™ of streams providing music to young ears in my time. I’ve already done a lot of stuff from my childhood, so in order to meet the criteria for today’s specific challenge, I guess we’ll go with television seeing as how church and school were pretty much still stuck in 19th century music when I was a kid. Not that television was that much different, but unlike church and school, television certainly was trying to figure out how to upgrade their musical models.

^Merrie Melodies & Looney Tunes – Opening themes.^

Roob’s first song pick…

Weird that Cade chose to focus in on TV music from his childhood, as the one song I’d fixed upon including in this post – before even receiving his choices – was the theme tune for a sports show on TV…

*No, that’s not the one I’m specifically thinking of Clicky, though we did watch it at Sunday teatime…*

*Fuck! I’d forgotten just how much cricket I was subjected to as a kid…*

*I’ll admit, there was quite a lot of it I did like…/flicks ash… But that’s not it. Seriously, we could be here all fuckin’ day if you’re gonna keep on guessing, Clicky…*

takes checkered flag

*Close…*

^Classic UK TV Theme ~ Pot Black (Black And White Rag)^

Cade’s second song pick…

Loads of music came in via the idiot box. Mostly musical snippets and blurbs. Lots of fade-ins, lots of fade-outs, and lots of musical chunks that really didn’t belong to a tune, but rather just disconnected and otherwise disjointed musical sounds added for dramatic effect. A xylophone tapping out a cadence to let you know that the news was on. Or maybe a bar or two of some dramatic horns with kettle drums banging away in order to snap your attention away from whatever you were involved in whilst simultaneously raising your pulse rate. Television producers were some devious fucks way back. Loads of people graduating colleges with sociology, psychology, and marketing degrees, and you must put them to work in some capacity in order to prove the the educational system is A) working, and B) pays off in the long run. The practical side being, these young minds you are employing bring with them fresh perspectives on squeezing dollars out of the public, whilst simultaneously remaining malleable enough that they can likely be made to not make distinctions between light and dark. Afterall, they need their jobs. They gotta eat. So you cross some lines here and there…so what?

^Zoom opening credits – Season 3, Cast 2^

Roob’s second song pick…

*Kid shows full of kids. Yuck! Ironic, too, considering that one ran for decades… /blows smoke rings… Oh, I didn’t know Russell T Davies worked on that show…*

*Was it a case of ‘Why don’t you… regenerate Doctor Who?’ …/smirks…*

^We could have been anything – Bugsy Malone^

Cade’s third song pick…

The answers as to why samplers and sampling became so popular in music are right there, you possibly just aren’t looking at things as they really are. Everything got put on the clock at some point. Everything got condensed. The radio was still a bit fluid with respect to time, and also fluid with respect to their programming. But not television. Television was relentless. You have a block of time, in time, and that’s all the time you get. That means anything and everything is over-produced. No raw, no rare, everything is well-done. Rehearsed and practiced to perfection. Sequenced. Quantized. Sterilized. Clean. Machine like. Nothing left to chance. The art has been, and is still being, perfected.

Digress

You’ve got somewhere between 30 and 60 seconds to get your brand out there with a shiny and smiling face, and you gotta do so in such a way that people are gonna beat a path to your door. God only knows how much time, effort and resources went into producing that perfect commercial, but you can bet it was a lot. Pouring weeks or even months into a few seconds. Getting into people’s heads a few seconds at a time, and staying there. Yeah, I’m thinking that it caught on.

^SPEED RACER 1967 Cartoon Intro^

Roob’s third song pick…

The one song that completely captivated me during my childhood, was also encountered via the telly. When my school put the play on for Christmas, I practiced and practiced singing it before the afternoon of auditions in the school gym. I was so excited to be asked to stay on once Mr Ford, the teacher/director, had made his shortlist of candidates for the leading role. That excitement was matched by my complete and utter disappointment to discover that I was only there to help stack the gym benches back along the wall once the auditions were over…

^Somewhere Over the Rainbow – The Wizard of Oz ((1/8) Movie CLIP (1939) HD^

The final word to Cade…

My intent today was not to be morose or glum and gloomy. I had no idea what I was being fed at the time. Just someone born into the world when I was, and have spent a good portion of the rest of the time trying to make some kind of sense of it all. And, I honestly don’t remember much outside of television with respect to music other than a lot of the ground I’ve already covered in both this 30-day thingie, plus a lot of the writing I’ve done over the past few years. I guess I make distinctions between television and radio music because music on the radio seemed to be more about giving, whereas stuff on television was all about taking. Music on the radio willingly opened a door and gave freely, whereas the stuff on television was more akin to sticking a crowbar in the door to break in or maybe picking the locks. So yeah, the music I remember from “my childhood” is a lot of bits and pieces of nonsense. A chaotic scramble of nonsensical noise created for the express purpose of getting inside my head, and staying there. Consumer 4 Life.

^The Mamas & The Papas – Monday Monday^

Day 28: songs by artists who’s voice we love

Cade’s first song pick…

giphy-2

Last night, I had a dream. In the dream, there was some vaporous, quasi-hidden fucker hiding in the shadows whilst darting around telling me that I needed to select music(s) that were representative of various things. In one instance, I was tasked with selecting a song that would be representative of the overall vibe of the 1970s. In my dream, the song that I selected was an instrumental. More than that, this song wasn’t released until the late 1970s. Although there is no singing on this track, the vocalist for this particular group likely has one of the most unique, identifiable, and iconic singing voices in rock music. However, when I woke, I had nothing but questions. Made no sense to me at all upon waking that I had chosen this particular song in my dream to be representative of the 1970s that I personally know. Prolly lingering guilt over not choosing a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers song on the “songs that break your heart” day.

Ironic that whilst pondering all this crap about love and death, I personally cannot escape…dreams. Pretty sure I never owned the album ‘Hemispheres‘, and also pretty sure that I would never consciously select this song as being an all-encompassing representative of my time spent in the 1970s. Moreover, after I woke this morning, did some reading on this song, and was shocked to discover that it is about…dreams. Nightmares, to be more specific. I can only wonder as to why my subconscious would select a song with no vocals to be representative of a time that contained all kinds of vocal expression.

^Rush – La Villa Strangiato^

Roob’s first song pick…

Seeing as Cade has kicked us off with his dreams, I have to include Dolores O’Riordan and the Cranberries, and a song from one of my all time favourite movies…

*/blows smoke rings… Woodstock revivial? Interesting, Clicky… /flicks ash…*

Cade’s second song pick…

giphy-3

Kinda weird that in a dream, there are many things that make sense within the context of the dream. However, once that dream has ended and you are awake, all of that clarity fades to confusion. You can almost feel it in your being that this dream and the things in it made sense whilst you were dreaming. But now that you are back in this realm and lucid, you can’t help but giggle a bit at the absurdity of it all. No fucking way any of that craziness made sense. And if it did? I’ll be goddamned if I can remember what it was that made it make sense. None of it makes sense anymore.

^Cocteau Twins – “Ribbed and Veined”^

Roob’s second song pick…

As Cade is still on the subject of dreams, I shall continue with another voice I love from an all time favourite movie of mine. This time Roy Orbison…

Dreamy. Dreamy, dreamy, dreamy. Some sounds are like a barrier between eternal peace and eternal war. Voices don’t exist here in the more traditional sense(s). They’re here, they just…operate a little differently. Almost like contempt and respect existing in the same space, and doing so without being hateful or spiteful, and even without being loving or adoring. I love you, and I hate you, and I do both of these at the same time, without really doing either. Almost like looking backwards. Or looking forwards. Looking anywhere and everywhere but here.

The final word to Cade…

giphy-4

It’s not really unusual that certain things “make sense” within a certain context, but outside of that context…no, no sense made. Putting on a concert in the middle of a field prolly doesn’t make much sense. God almighty…that was over 50 years ago. Made no sense then, makes no sense now, and yet, people are still talking about it.

Q: Does Woodstock have anything more than commercial value?

A: ??

What is “Woodstock” anyway? I’m not trying to plan the 100th anniversary or anything, but I do wonder what value this concert/event will have in the year 2069. Will it make sense. Yeah, the one from 1969…will it make sense in 2069, and if so, to whom, and under what auspices, pretenses, terms and conditions will it make sense? Will DMT be a staple of the water supplies of the future much like Fluoride is a staple of the water supplies of today, and everyone will be “tripping-balls” 24/7? Which, I think I’ve pretty much decided that Fluoride is added to water to keep the pipes and infrastructure clean, and it being added for the benefit of people’s teeth or other human health concerns is pure horseshit. ‘Cept for of course the fact that drinking water supplied via filthy pipes is indeed a health concern. There are some weird loops in life.

Does it make sense to you that I have had the requirements of today’s challenge on my mind the entire time that I’ve been writing, yet have primarily used songs with no vocals?

Welp, I have

Guess you’ll just have to read between the lines a bit. I hear all kinds of voices in the music that I’ve included. Some voices I like, some voices I love, some voices…not so much. Woulda been great to see this final song performed live at the time tho. Strange how voices speak to us, and when.

Day 27: songs that break your heart

Cade’s first song pick…

As I best as my 33 & 1/3cc brain can deduce, today is (at a minimum) a combination of days 4, 9 and 10. This whole challenge thingie has wafted in and out of the tangible and intangible realms, and now it has gone and gotten downright personal. It now wants to know about tunes that may make me happy and/or sad, and it also wants to know how to conjure things in me that might be best left undisturbed. Moreover, it want’s to know how to achieve all of these things in a single swipe. Lastly, why is this particular challenge coming on Day 27?

I dunno if there is a significance of this particular challenge coming on Day 27. That said, I’m quite sure that I’m suspicious of anyone who wants to know what kinds of music breaks my heart. Especially coming on the heels of Day 26 which wanted to know about stuff that makes me want to fall in love.

^deadmau5 – Errors in my head^

Roob’s first song pick…

I don’t know that my first song choice breaks my heart as such. It is about heartbreak – spending the first night of your honeymoon in separate rooms is as cruel fuck. Or not, as the case may be, but singing along loudly with the song is kinda cathartic. Try it… Free da pain!

^Freda Payne – Band of Gold – Lyrics^

Cade’s second song pick…

Any paranoia I may have displayed in my previous block of text is…yeah, not really there. But it also kinda is. Kinda weird that someone out there in the world would want to know specific songs that break my heart. But, misery is said to love company, so maybe its a matter of maybe not feeling so alone. Knowing not only that your heart is broken, and what broke it, but why, as well as an assurance of “ME TOO!”, so that one does not feel so isolated and outcast. I mean, hell, the Ode To Joy movement from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony can break hearts, it just breaks hearts in a way that others can more readily identify with and will likely more openly admit. The tears in their eyes are usually a dead giveaway.

Digress

What got me off into “paranoid” types of thinking was a matter of this day’s requirements having less “overlap” and being more…pointy. That got me to thinking about all of the data collection methods used online anymore. I mean, you can’t go to a website that has a Numerology name calculator anymore. If you enter your name, the website is likely to keep it/store it, and use it in some way to make money. You do read a website’s “Privacy” page…right?

AstrologyFutureEye

AstrologyFutureEye Privacy

If you scroll down to the “How information of user collected” section, then read under “Online Forms”, you will notice that they say you can enter your name safely on any of their forms because they will not collect it. However…do you trust them? How would you know if they were collecting your information. More than that, what could you do about it. The English on that Privacy Policy ain’t that great which raises some legal questions, not to mention that the site owner is located in India. What does any of this have to do with music/songs that break my heart?

I dunno
^Mumford and Sons – Little Lion Man^

Roob’s second song pick…

My second song choice is about a whole life of heartbreak…

*Fucking ‘ell, Clicky… /flicks ash… You don’t see adventure playgrounds like that anymore…*

^I’m Still Waiting^

Cade’s third song pick…

Have spent a lot of time over the past few years upending anecdotes and cliches. Such as…

“Can an infinitely powerful being create a weight so heavy, that even they cannot lift it?”

My answer was…

”Yes. But what about when they eventually can lift this weight?”

Today is not indicative of tomorrow, so what is the point of such a question other than to silence debate and/or dissent? Point being, I’m wondering here if there a difference between a song that has broken my heart, and a song that will break my heart. More than that, is there potentially a song that has broken my heart in the past, still breaks my heart now, and this song will always break my heart in the future. Do I build up a resistance. Do I grow calloused. Will the scars from where the cracks appeared eventually fade or will they always be there.

Day 26: songs that make you want to fall in love

Cade’s first song pick…

giphy-1

I guess I’m gonna have to go way way back here. My “love life” has been shit as of late.

 Utter shite

I guess my love life has been shit anyway. No idea as to the protocols for keeping score on scoring, nor who is keeping score, nor why. I’m single, no prospects, I have no intention of having any prospects, so yeah…shit. I guess I’m just not “In The Mood For Love”. This means we’re going to have to go way way way WAY back to where I was a starry-eyed kid laying on the floor, listening to music, and dreaming of my dream gal.

^’Let ‘Em In’ – PaulMcCartney.com Track of the Week^

*And it was Pops’ birthday… /lights up and smokes… Nearly the oldest in the house… /flicks ash… but not quite yet…*

^Peter Gabriel – Don’t Give Up (ft. Kate Bush)^

Cade’s second song pick…

This next one may not seem like a love song or a song that makes you want to love to many, but it is to me. This track is off of what is prolly my favorite AC/DC album. Before you dismiss that thought out of hand, AC/DC was “my band” as a kid, and I had all their albums. ALL of their albums. Imports, rarities, anything I could get my hands on, and I liked pretty much everything they did.

Anyway, I can recall relating to the song mainly because even from a very young age, my personal path seemed as tho it was gonna be a rocky one. I’m quite plain, average in just about every category, sickly, not that smart, not really good at anything, so chicks weren’t exactly throwing themselves at me. Figure it prolly best that I treat anyone who is interested in me as best I can. Tragic that I’ll prolly be no good at that either. But, I can try.

/shrug

Never know when you are going to bump into someone that is also looking for somebody to shove.

BLOOPS! I mean, somebody to love, not shove.

^Up to My Neck in You^

Roob’s second song pick…

Falling in love is easy; I do it all the time. The night the boys came home from the hospital, after their birth was very fraught indeed. The late summer night was hot and sultry, which made them cry. The nappies we’d got were way too big, so every time they peed, they got wet, then cried. They cried a lot. Thoughtful Man and I were snipping and sniping at each other in our rising panic, which made them cry. Just what the holy, motherfucking hell had we done!?

Just before dawn, Thoughtful Man decided to try music. He chose a song, scooped a wailing bundle in each arm and hit ‘play’ on the CD player with his big toe. He rocked back and forth, singing softly. The twins stopped crying and I fell in love again…

^Two Little Boys – Rolf Harris^

Cade’s third song pick…

This 30 Day Challenge thing is getting personal. Not sure how smart it is of me to open up too much. Might be sneaky fuckers out there trying to find out what turns me on, all so they can get in my pants.

ROFL

Um, where was I? OH YEAH! FANTASY LAND!!! Digress.

Love is weird. I’m not sure if Love is a thing made up of many things, or many things made up of some single thing. Maybe its both of those. Either of those? No idea. I do know that Love is one of the best timekeepers that I’ve ever found. When all other time and times are fuzzy and unclear, Love is quite distinct, whether it be present or not. When Love is there, you know it. When Love isn’t there, you know it. When Love’s companion Hate is there, you know it. Etc.. Which, I personally think that Hate is just Love through a different filter.

I kinda see Love as a light inside of an old-style cheese grater that is spinning. The source of the Love is quite pure, but it needs some filtering before it gets to us. It needs to be cut. The pure stuff is way too potent. Deadly. So yeah, the Love is inside the cheese grater, the grater is spinning, and the cheesy goodness type of Love that we humans can understand is being slung and spewed out all over the cosmos. ‘Cept more like a disco ball or disco lights kinda things. Maybe that’s why discos and nachos are so popular?

/me shrugs again

Day 24: songs from bands we wish were still together

Cade’s first song pick…

This is kinda ghoulish. I’m picturing resurrecting people from the dead, and then commanding them to make music. Or worse, cramming people who are still living back together with band mates they may hate. Both great ideas, eh? Prolly will result in some fan-fucking-tastic new music.

Now, are there some bands that I could have seen live in concert, but didn’t, that I wish I would have seen? Sure. But really not even that scenario works here because I personally never was much of a concert person. I used to like to go see live music at local venues featuring local bands, but never was that big on concerts. The bigger the venue, the less it interested me. But maybe that’s because the first concert I ever went to had over 60,000 people in attendance, and it kinda sucked standing outside in the December cold for around 12 hours straight.

^Resurrection spell^

Roob’s first song pick…

The thing about bands is that they never seem to break up and stay broken anymore. Their original fan base grew up, joined the adult world, have disposable income enough to try recapture some of their youth, and so the lucrative reunion tour is born…

^Bon Jovi – Reunion^

Cade’s second song pick…

To actively participate in today’s challenge, I even did some research since I can’t think of any bands I’d like to see back together at my own behest. Rolling Stone magazine has a list of the Top 100 artists of all time, I went through all 100, and nothing grabbed me. That list appears to be compiled in such a way to generate controversy and inspire anger, but the list is full of the usual suspects so yeah…nothing.

Are there bands that it would have been cool to see stick around for a bit longer? Sure. Are there bands that it would have been great if they had made more music? Yep. But things didn’t work out that way. I mean, I hated the fact that Pixies broke up rather quickly, but when they got back together it was kinda…meh. Yes, it was very cool they got back together, but it was also kinda…

Cade’s third song pick…

It could be said that I’ve simply gotten too old to give a fuck. Maybe even that I’m bitter. But in thinking about it now, maybe its that I’ve spent the past several years making peace with a lot of stuff in my life. Things I did that I regret doing. Things I didn’t do that I regret not doing. Who I am, why I am the way that I am, how to be better, flowery crap like that. Haven’t really worked to let things go as much as make peace with a lot of things that have ground my gut for long periods of time. I’m not actively trying to bury things, nor am I actively trying to dig shit up, just taking it as it comes. Maybe that’s why I’m having trouble raising the dead for my own personal satisfaction.

Day 23: songs everyone should listen to

Cade’s first song pick…

Day 23. Where are we? Airstrip One in Oceania? Is the year 1984? Is my name Winston Smith? Am I currently being imprisoned in the Ministry of Love by the Thought Police? Accused of thought crimes, covered in rats, and being re-educated so as to direct my affections toward the intangible Big Brother instead of the tangible Julia?

Should

  Shall

Must

Have To

Got To

Gotta

Dance

I’ve intercepted my own thought process(es), because I honestly cannot think of a single song that I think everyone should listen to.

^“Gotta Dance” — Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse, 1952^

Clicky’s first song pick…

^Head Over Heels^

Cade’s second song pick…

Music (to me) is about discovering how to explore freedom(s) that we as individuals may be fortunate enough to have. There are many people who cannot hear, or cannot hear well, and probably a lot of people in the world who do not have access to music and/or do not have access to mediums that allow them to listen to music. As a result, this pathway is kinda closed to a great many individuals. So for me to suggest that “everyone should” listen to a certain song is akin to saying everyone needs to go out and buy a radio. Or a CD player. Or a radio with a CD player in it. You need to accessorize in order to gain access to the magic I am about to demand you participate in. Engage the supply chains. Consume. Become one, with the one.

^Manufacture – World Control^

Clicky’s second song pick…

^The Police – Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic^

Cade’s third song pick…

My heart just isn’t in it today. Couldn’t think of anything yesterday, can’t think of anything today, and to top it all off, I learned yesterday that Neil Peart of Rush has died. Yeah, “The Professor” was one of the best rock drummers to date, he was an incredible percussionist and musician. But a lot of people don’t know that he was also the group’s lyricist, and is legendary for being an avid reader and literary enthusiast.

A modern day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today’s Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride

Though his mind is not for rent
Don’t put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day’s events
The river

Rush – Tom Sawyer – From the album Moving Pictures

Pretty sure the first album of theirs that I heard in its entirety was A Farewell To Kings, and I likely first heard it in 1978. It has two of their most iconic songs in Xanadu and Closer To The Heart, the whole album is incredible, but for me, Cygnus X-1 Book 1: The Voyage is the song from that album that means the most to me personally. For those perhaps unaware, Cygnus X-1 is a Black Hole. I think it fair to say that the song(s) had quite the impact on my 10 year old mind.

Look, all I’m saying I guess is that I can’t think in totalitarian kinds of thought streams in the wake of learning that one of my biggest musical and lyrical influences/inspirations has passed. I don’t mind suggesting things for others to listen to, or sharing music that I like with others. But how you as an individual choose to exercise your freedom as to whether or not to listen? That’s your bag.

Day 22: songs that move you forwards

Cade’s first song pick…

Songs that move me…forward. Fuck! I’m not trying to make this more complex than it needs to be, but what if I’m standing facing a corner? Forward is the last place I wanna go, and moving backwards may be the only way to move forward. What if a meteor is about to hit me? Moving left or right may be…forward. I’m just curious as to the qualifier in today’s challenge with respect to movement. This is some Willy Wonka “gotta go forward to get back” levels of mind-fuckery we got going on right here. Fuck it, let’s start off with my second song first, and go with ‘It Moves Me’ by Neal Rosengarden. This is a great song with some awesome guitar picking, some excellent percussive elements, and some damn uplifting lyrics being delivered by some great vocals. Only problem is, I have not a clue how to find this song other than by this clip below from the movie ‘Gizmo!‘. Which, if you haven’t seen it, it is WELL worth a viddy.

Q: Is there a reason I can’t get to my WordPress dashboard?

A: !¿WTF?!

First I couldn’t like WordPress comments, now I can’t even get to my own blog. Kinda difficult to move forward when you can’t get access to the tools that are going to propel you in that direction. Sorry Roob, but we’re gonna have to go backwards for the time being in order to proceed.

😦

^Vintage – Inventions, Gadgets & Ideas^

Roob’s first song pick…

My first serious boyfriend was a chap called Paul. We met at a pub called Bloomers near the entrance to the Rotherhithe Tunnel in Bermondsey, on Halloween 1985. I was dressed as a nun, he was dressed as a vicar; it was meant be 😉 I still have the mixed tape he later made for me with music from that night, and this song kicks it off…

^Total Contrast – Takes A Little Time (12 inch US Remix) HQsound^

Cade’s second song pick…

This next song is actually my third pick btw. I have a song buzzing around in my head regarding movement, but I went to pee earlier and forgot what song it was I meant to look up when I got back to my computer. Anyway, since I have no idea what “forward” means in this current day’s context, let’s muddy the waters even more, and we’ll do so using a magical invention devised for delivering sonic clarity in an otherwise busy and potentially muddy audio environment.

^Moving in Stereo^

Roob’s second song pick…

Regardless of direction, this next song not only gets you moving, but it slows you right down before getting you moving again. Genius!

^Fatboy Slim – The Rockafeller Skank (HQ audio)^

Cade’s third song pick…

First song of mine was actually ‘Move!‘ by Public Enemy, but I’m not gonna use it as my first pick. That song has propelled me for several decades now, and I appreciate that. However, this last one is another one of those songs that found its way onto my radar a few years back, and boy, did it ever appear just when I needed it to. This is another song that got me through a lot of long and lonely times. So yeah, moved me forward? Yep, this song did that. Helped to get me here anyway. I’m thankful for that. I haven’t a clue where I am, but glad to be here.

I have many promises to keep…

And miles to go before I sleep.

Miles to go before I sleep.

^Grouplove – “Ways to Go” [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]^

Roob’s third song pick…

My third song is infused with four word motion…

eskimo roll

*Yes that’s rolling on a river…/stubs butt… not exactly what I meant though, Clicky…*

^Ike & Tina Turner – Proud Mary 1973^

The final word to Cade…

I’m not trying to always get “the last” word…

honest I'm not

I just recalled my original first pick. I can’t recall the other song that I was thinking about, but this one, yes. Pretty sure this one is the first ever really difficult piece that my uncle who taught me the drums put on the turn table, and said to me “give this one a try”. Man, talk about a kid wearing greased ice skates trying to skate uphill…I was fucking overwhelmed. Over time, I got to where I could hang in for certain parts, but other than that, I had to improvise. All that was in my 13 year old head was “none of my friends play stuff like this! Who in the hell am I going to play music with? I wanna be a rock drummer!”

Looking back, taking the time to learn stuff like this could have potentially made me a much better drummer/percussionist. But, I didn’t. I stuck with AC/DC and Judas Priest and Saxon and the like, and concentrated on being a good time-keeper. Again, little did I know then that learning stuff like Billy Cobham could have helped immensely in that regard. But again, I didn’t. As to which direction this song moved me? No idea.
