To be fair, in times of war (like, an actual shooting war), anyone expecting any government to be honest and forthcoming is fooling themselves. I have no idea why people are expecting honestly out of the press or governments or anyone even remotely involved for that matter.
Everything out of their mouths is going to be lies, and it’s for some other purpose.
And when you think about it, it’s pretty much business as usual…only the circumstances and intensity have changed.

Agreed. Lies about this war are being disseminated in super quick time, but they’re also being debunked and disseminated in super quick time too.

Yeah that’s the only other major change in times of shooting wars is the urgency. Most of the time things are more easily and readily dismissed because they have no real sense of urgency. One typically has more time/freedom to be dismissive, procrastinatory or I guess even banal. War can change such dynamics, rapidly.
